Summary[]
Buffs are various positive effects that help allies in battle. They are gained with magic, items, and equipment, and go away when the ally is downed or the battle ends.
Note: Barrier, Attack Up, and Auto-life are negated with Dispel and Black Hole.
Buffs[]
Barrier[]
This is a very useful effect that negates all status ailments on the ally as long as it is active. When applied, any existing status ailments are removed. Status ailments are not inflicted when Barrier is applied.
This can act as a "4th equipment slot" of sorts, in that instead of using a piece of equipment that prevents a status ailment, an ally can simply use Barrier and use the equipment slot for something else. However, be wary of Dispel and Black Hole, as they are frequently used in addition to status ailments.
In normal mode, this lasts until the ally is downed or the battle ends.
In hard mode, in addition to the limits in normal mode, this lasts for up to three turns.
Attack Up[]
This doubles both the physical and magic damage an ally deals. It does not affect item damage.
Given how large of an increase in damage this provides, it is highly recommended to apply it on attackers as much as possible in most situations.
Auto-life[]
When an ally is reduced to 0 HP, instead of being downed, they will be left with 100 HP. When this happens, any Status Ailments are removed along with Auto-life.
This is incredibly useful in a variety of situations, for example surviving otherwise unsurvivable attacks like Ultimatum and Megidolaon. Due to the much higher cost of applying it compared to just reviving, however, it should not be spammed too much, especially in fights that use Dispel or Black Hole.
Half FP Cost[]
Any ally with this effect uses half the usual Flower Points when using magic, rounded up.
It cannot be negated.
Haste[]
Any ally with this effect will be allowed to take two actions per turn. The only inherent limitation is on the second turn is the ally will no longer be able to Defend, instead do nothing by selecting Stand By. However, most accessories that provide Haste also limit one or more actions, especially the use of items.
The immense power and versatility of haste items cannot be understated, and it is highly recommended to use them when possible. Just be careful not to leave yourself too vulnerable, as Haste accessories also give the ally immense speed to go before non-Haste users. Furthermore, be warned that monsters with Counters will still counter after each attack.
Like Half FP Cost, it cannot be negated.
